What are Capstan Screws?

DIN 404 Capstan Screws are part of Accu's Precision Screws range and they are designed with a broad cylindrical head, which features multiple radial holes for the insertion of a lever, cable or wire, which is then turned or wound around the screw for tension adjustment. A Capstan Screw is unique in that it can be turned from either the slotted drive, using a Slotted Screwdriver Bit, or from the holes in its side.

These components are widely used in metrology equipment and in musical instruments such as pianos, as they are capable of being adjusted in very fine increments.

Materials

Capstan Screws are available in A1 Stainless Steel as standard, with the options of Chemical Black Coatings or a Thread Locking Patch available on request.

Metric Capstan Screws

This range of components is manufactured according to DIN 404, and is available in metric diameters of between M3 and M6, and lengths of between 4mm and 30mm. Additional dimensions can also be custom manufactured on request, contact our sales team for more details.
