What are R Clips?

R Clips, also commonly known as Hairpin Cotter Pins, owing to their resemblance to a hairclip, are a type of Split Pin used for securing and retaining cylindrical shafts, including axles and clevis pins.

The straight leg of the pin is pushed into a hole near the end of the round shaft until the middle section of the clip grips onto the shaft, thereby resisting any force to remove the R Clip.

This type of retaining pin is available in a single loop or double loop variety which aids with spreading the stress out more evenly and offers greater longevity.
