What Is FightFest?

FightFest is a fighting robot championship, designed and developed by Labman Automation, experts in robotics and custom laboratory automation solutions. 

The competition is specifically aimed to encourage young engineers to develop their skills, unleash their creativity and ignite their passion for robotics.

The premise is simple; the fighting robots go head to head in a bulletproof arena where they compete in thrilling battles that put their technical expertise, innovative problem-solving and strategic thinking to the ultimate test.

What’s New With FightFest?

This year, the field of competitors for FightFest is larger than ever before, with 16 student teams and 18 non-student teams competing for the epic title of FightFest Champion.

Ed Hodges, Project Leader at Labman reflected on their plans for the upcoming event, “For FightFest 2023 we are really focused on the in-person experience and trying to maximise the fun and engaging atmosphere at the event, whilst also building upon the awesome competition we’ve seen in previous years.”

With the aim of bringing the event closer to students, FightFest has now become integrated with university engineering courses, including those at the University of Sheffield and the University of Bolton. 

Encouraging their young engineers to take on the challenge, these universities have incorporated FightFest into their robotics modules which have students design and build an entry to compete in the event.  

In keeping with the in-person experience, FightFest 2023 will now offer camping throughout the weekend for competitors, volunteers and professionals alike. 

To further enhance the camaraderie and networking opportunities, Labman is also hosting a social event encouraging all those in attendance to enjoy handmade pizza and drinks from a local brewery.

• This competition is subject to Accu's standard Competition Terms and Conditions
• You must be available on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July 2023 to attend the FightFest competition at Labman Automation HQ in North Yorkshire. If you are unavailable, the prize will be forfeited and given to another entrant.
• Entries are only open to UK residents aged 17 or over.
• The winners will be expected to visit Labman Automation at Seamer Hill, Seamer, Stokesley, Middlesbrough TS9 5NQ.
• Winners will need to make their own arrangements for transport to and from the event, along with accommodation (if necessary).
• You must always adhere to Labman Automation’s health and safety guidelines.
