Accu supports Giant Howarth Sleepout

Accu is proud to be a Business Event Supporter for the Giant Howarth Sleepout, returning for its third year on Friday 11th October 2024. This incredible & unique event, raises vital funds to support vulnerable individuals in our local community, a cause close to our hearts.
At Accu, we believe in doing our bit. Recently, we welcomed Carl from The Howarth Foundation to Accu HQ with Richard, our Operations Director, showing him around our warehouse, talking about our day to day operations and the ways we get involved with local fundraising and volunteering opportunities through the AccuFoundation.
As a Business Building Futures member of the Howarth Foundation, we were thrilled to be asked to get involved with The Giant Howarth Sleepout.
Hosted at The John Smith’s Stadium, the event offers a unique opportunity for businesses, individuals and families to come together for a night of solidarity, raising awareness and funds to help those who face homelessness in the Kirklees area.
Demi-Leigh Searle, Employee Experience Manager, commented:
"Here at Accu we believe championing events like this sponsored sleep-out strengthens our local community by raising awareness and showing that together, we can make a real difference for those in need."

Last year’s event saw over 90 participants give up a night of comfort to highlight the daily struggles faced by those surviving without a home.
With the goal of raising more than ever before, this year promises to be even bigger. While the night may be cold, participants will stay warm with light entertainment and activities throughout the evening.
Funds raised from the Sleepout will help The Howarth Foundation provide essential ‘back to work’ packages for individuals transitioning out of homelessness, and the Huddersfield Giants Community Trust will continue to inspire change through their community outreach programmes.
Join Team Accu & other fantastic organisations in supporting this incredible cause. Let’s come together, make a difference, and show the power of local businesses in driving positive change.
To sign up or donate, visit the Giants Community Trust website. Together, we can make a real impact.

So, how did our brave volunteers get on with their sleepout challenge? Let’s see what they had to say about the evening and what they learnt from the experience…
”The sleep-out was a truly eye-opening (and very chilly) experience! Spending the night in the stadium gave us a glimpse into the harsh realities of homelessness and served as a poignant reminder of the daily struggles so many endure.
The Howarths Foundation plays an incredible role in empowering individuals experiencing homelessness, including hidden homelessness, by supporting their journey into employment and helping them change their lives”

“A cold but humbling experience! For those living on the streets, each night means facing the elements, physical danger, and overwhelming isolation.
After hearing Shamus share his story of homelessness, it was incredible to learn how The Howarth Foundation helped him rebuild his life. I felt incredibly grateful for my warm bed the next morning.”
Hannah Laverick
Management Accountant
”It was an incredibly cold and uncomfortable night, but I was surrounded by the amazing team from Accu and the other participants, which made it truly special.
One of the most powerful moments of the night was hearing Shamus speak. His story of being supported by The Howarth Foundation, now having both accommodation and employment, was deeply inspiring.
It was an amazing event, supporting amazing charities, and such a fulfilling experience for everyone involved.”

”It gave a brutal insight into the struggles many people face on a daily basis. The cold and the noise made it almost impossible to relax never mind getting a good night sleep.
The thing that stuck with me was there are people going through this every single night. I was lucky to go home the next morning to a nice soft bed in a warm house - some people don't have the luxuries that we take for granted.”
