What are Vented Socket Head Cap Screws?

Vented Cap Head Screws, sometimes called Vacuum Screws, Ventilation Screws, or simply Hollow Screws, feature a bored-out centre, and are specially designed to allow the release of gases and pressure through the fastener’s core.

Vented Screws are widely used within vacuum assemblies. These components allow surface contaminants to be extracted from blind-tapped holes, and can also prevent trapped pockets of gas at the base of blind drilled holes, which can lead to virtual leaks within vacuums.

Despite its intended purpose in pressure regulation, the centre bore of a Vented Cap Head Screw has a wide variety of secondary applications, such as temperature regulation, the insertion of electrical wires, or to create cleaning and probing access. Due to their unique design and characteristics, Vented Screws are being used in many new and innovative applications.

Standard Vented Screws in this range feature a (socket) hexagonal drive, making them fully compatible with Accu's selection of Allen Keys. Ventilation Screws can be manufactured with hexalobular shaped Torx Drives on request.

Vented Cap Head Screws were first commissioned to Accu as a custom manufactured component - a specialist modification based upon a standard DIN 912 Cap Head Screw. Since then, these screws have seen growing popularity amongst our customers, and have been introduced as a part of our standard range. Accu’s Vented Cap Screw ranges are now specially manufactured according to our own drawings and specifications.

Vent Screws are manufactured from high-quality A2 and A4 (Marine Grade) Stainless Steel as standard. Components in this range can also be custom manufactured from specialist materials such as Aluminium, Brass, Phosphor Bronze and thermally stable PEEK thermoplastic.

Vented Cap Head Screw Sizing

Vented Cap Screws are available in a selection of metric thread diameters, from M2 up to M16 and with thread lengths ranging from 4mm up to 60mm. As standard, components within the Vented Screws range are available with a central vent diameter of between 0.7mm and 1.8mm.
