Discover more about the Slot Drills range.
Slot Drills are similar to end drills, but as well as being used on the edges and faces of materials, it can also be used in the central part of the application such as creating blind holes. These tools form part of our Precision Milling Cutters. The material variants include carbide, powder metal and HSS slot drills.
HSS Slot Drill
The range includes High Speed Steel Slot Drills in 2mm to 32mm diameters, they are available with two end profiles: a ball nose or standard square nose. They are available uncoated or with a titanium aluminium nitride finish which has a high resistance to heat and oxidation. These components are suitable for machining carbon steel, alloy steel and pre hardened steels. Some HSS products can be used for cutting copper and aluminium.
Carbide Slot Drills
Solid carbide provides better rigidity and can be run faster than HSS. It is therefore chosen for higher speed applications. These are ideal slot drills for carbon steels, alloy steels, pre hardened steels and stainless steel. They are also used with cast iron, copper and aluminium.
Powder Metal Versions
Powder metal components are available in either a PVD or CVD coatings. PVD is an environmentally friendly vacuum coating process with good wear and corrosion resistance. Chemical Vapour Disposition (CVD) is the most common coating process, where the coating material is deposited from a gaseous phase to provide the finish.
