What are Imperial Torx Countersunk Sealing Screws?

Uniquely engineered with a groove on the underside of the screw head, Imperial Torx Countersunk Sealing Screws are fitted with a captive rubber O-Ring. Designed to squeeze outwardly during fastening to create a 360° seal, this rubber O-Ring helps to prevent internal and external leaks, ensuring hazardous substances do not enter the environment. This helps fortify and protect machinery from damage, even under extreme atmospheres and temperatures.

Owing to their design, the Countersunk Head of these Self Seal Screws allows for the screw head to sit flush with the surface of the mating object following installation, with the pre-installed O-Ring on the underside creating a hermetic seal.

For optimal performance, the use of a clearance gap is recommended to be installed into the surface of the mating panel. This allows the O-Ring to reshape itself within this gap ensuring metal-to-metal contact between the screw head and mating surface. This is beneficial in maintaining the integrity and performance of the O Ring, even when the fastener is under pressure.

As with a standard Imperial Torx Countersunk Screw, this Sealing Screw variant is fastened with the use of a Torx Drive (Star Drive). This popular drive type is often chosen for its increased cam-out resistance during installation, also affording higher torque transmission over the more traditional drive types, i.e. Phillips and Slotted Drives.

Materials

Accu’s Imperial Torx Countersunk Sealing Screws are made from A2 (304) Stainless Steel. Buna, Fluorosilicone and Viton (Fluorocarbon) material options are all offered as standard for the pre-fitted O Ring, with alternative materials suited to higher temperature applications available on request.

Our specialist AccuLock finish can be applied to these Sealing Screws, designed to reduce self loosening as a result of vibrations.
